Two arrested in Zuidwolde after neighbour reports man entering home
Police caught a 25-year-old man in the act at a Zuidwolde home and warn that scammers sometimes pose as police officers or bank staff.
Police received a call at around 19.30 from a local resident who said an unknown man had gone into a neighbour's home in Zuidwolde. Officers went straight to the house and arrested a 25-year-old man in the act. An underage boy from Amsterdam, found in a car nearby, was arrested too.
Police are investigating the boy's possible involvement. Both suspects are in custody and are being questioned.
Police used the case to warn about doorstep and phone scams. Scammers sometimes pose as police officers or bank staff to steal money, bank cards and other valuables, police said. They stressed that police and banks never ask people to hand over valuables to keep them safe.
Police said anyone unsure whether a real officer is at the door can call 112 to check. They also asked residents who see a suspicious situation, such as someone approaching vulnerable older people under a pretext, to report it. If a suspect is still present or a crime is in progress, police ask people to call 112.
