The Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie) suspects him of manslaughter (doodslag) on 10 January 2021.
According to the charges, the body was allegedly cut into 238 pieces, divided among 19 rubbish bags and hidden in two freezers in the home in Heerhugowaard. Police found the remains in the suspect's home in November 2024.
V. told the judges: "I was completely desperate. I can't justify it. I made terrible mistakes." He said there was no one in the world he loved more than his father.
V. says he got into a fight with his father after the older man allegedly threw a kitchen knife at him and came at him with another knife. "A horrific fight to the death followed, and it all went terribly wrong," he told the court.
His lawyer, Daniël Fontein, says his client killed his father in self-defence (noodweer).
