FNV and CNV suspend regional transport strike, talk again Friday
Unions FNV and CNV and employers in regional public transport will talk again on Friday, after the unions suspended a planned strike over a new collective agreement.
Unions FNV and CNV and employers in regional public transport (streekvervoer) are continuing talks on a new collective labour agreement (cao). The parties have scheduled an extra day of talks on Friday to try to reach a deal, the unions say.
FNV and CNV suspended a strike planned for last Thursday after employers made new proposals. "We see that steps are being made, but we are not there yet," an FNV spokesperson said. FNV does not rule out further action if the talks produce nothing.

cao (collectieve arbeidsovereenkomst)
A collective labour agreement (cao) is a written agreement between employers and trade unions that sets pay, working hours, holiday entitlement and other employment conditions for a whole sector or group of companies. In the Netherlands, cao talks are held separately for each sector, so the terms that apply to a worker depend on the sector they work in. A new cao is negotiated when the previous one expires, and the unions and employers involved must agree on it before it takes effect.
