Police seize almost €500,000 of vapes in Tilburg
Police in Tilburg found 5,100 THC vapes and 17,120 flavoured vapes in a building on the Lannerstraat, and arrested a 28-year-old local man. Flavoured vapes are banned in the Netherlands.
Police officers entered a building on the Lannerstraat in Tilburg around midnight on Monday night, after tips that vapes might be inside. As soon as they walked in, they saw three large stacked pallets of boxes.
During the search officers found 5,100 THC vapes and 17,120 flavoured vapes, with an estimated value of almost €500,000. They seized the vapes and two jammers.
A 28-year-old man from Tilburg was arrested. Police are continuing their investigation.
The sale of flavoured vapes is banned in the Netherlands. The sale and possession of vapes containing prohibited substances such as THC can also be punishable, police said.
Police say vapes are popular, especially among young people, and that drug vapes are increasingly common, including in Zeeland and West Brabant. Early police analyses show they can contain highly concentrated cannabis oil or synthetic cannabinoids, which can be extra harmful. Police said colourful packaging and appealing flavours often do not show what is actually inside.
