NS, ProRail and 113 launch joint campaign to cut suicides on the railways

NS, ProRail and other rail companies began a campaign on Monday with 113 Zelfmoordpreventie, the national suicide prevention service. Its aim is to reduce the number of suicides on the railways.
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) records deaths by suicide among residents of the Netherlands in front of a train or metro. It counted 180 in 2024, the same as in 2020 and one fewer than in 2023.
Since 2013 the yearly figure has ranged from 175 in 2021 to 213 in 2017. It passed 200 in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2022, when CBS counted 208.

113 Zelfmoordpreventie is the national suicide prevention organisation in the Netherlands. It offers free, confidential support by phone (0800-0113) to people who have suicidal thoughts, and to their relatives and others close to them. In this article it is the partner running the joint campaign with NS, ProRail and other rail companies to reduce suicides on the railways.
