Justice minister offers €2m for tip on Bolle Jos
Justice minister Van Weel has put up €2 million for information that leads to drug boss Jos Leijdekkers, who is believed to be hiding in Sierra Leone.
Justice minister Van Weel is offering €2m for a tip that leads to Jos "Bolle Jos" Leijdekkers, a drug boss wanted across Europe. He announced the reward in a letter to the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of parliament. The money comes from the budget of the Ministry of Justice and Security.
Van Weel wrote that the reward is part of the approach to organised crime. It is "necessary because of the threat Leijdekkers poses to national security, our democratic rule of law and the international legal order", he said.
Leijdekkers, 35, has been on the list of most-wanted European criminals for more than four years. He has been convicted in the Netherlands and Belgium of drug trafficking and other serious crimes.
He is believed to be in Sierra Leone, which has so far refused to extradite him. The Netherlands made its first official extradition request to the country early last year.
