Broadcasting staff urge NPO in open letter to pull out of Eurovision
Employees in Dutch broadcasting, some of them at the NPO itself, have asked the public broadcasting body to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest.
Concerned broadcasting employees have sent an open letter (brandbrief) to the NPO, asking it to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place next May in Bulgaria. Some of the people who signed the letter work at the NPO itself.
In the letter, the employees say they cannot accept that the wish to take part in an entertainment programme matters more than the countless lives of people being killed.
They also criticise the way the NPO decided to take part after all. "Anyone who takes connection seriously must also be willing to listen to the people affected by a decision," the letter says.
