Victor Everhardt is the new board chair (bestuursvoorzitter) of the Huurcommissie. He takes over from Henri Lenferink, who was acting chair. The Huurcommissie thanked Lenferink for his commitment and effort.

Everhardt said he wants to work for an accessible, independent organisation "where both tenants and landlords feel truly heard". He called the Huurcommissie's work for a fair rental market extremely important.

Mark de Boer, deputy secretary-general at the Ministry of BZK, said the appointment brings in an experienced chair and administrator who knows both the physical and the social domain and has a strong network in each. "I am confident he will further strengthen the Huurcommissie as an impartial and independent dispute resolver for tenants and landlords," he said.

Nancy Krooshof-Bakker, the Huurcommissie's director, said it is important that tenants and landlords can find the organisation and rely on careful, understandable dispute resolution, "in the form that suits". She pointed to Everhardt's broad administrative experience and knowledge of social issues around housing.

Lenferink said he hands over the chairmanship with confidence and wished Everhardt success, together with the Huurcommissie's expert and committed staff.

## Background

- **Huurcommissie**: The Huurcommissie is an independent Dutch body that handles disputes between tenants and landlords about rent. It assesses whether the rent for regulated rental homes is allowed under the rent rules and issues rulings on these cases. Its board chair (bestuursvoorzitter) leads the organisation.
- **BZK (Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties)**: BZK is the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. It is responsible for, among other things, housing policy, local government, elections and relations with the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. Because it oversees housing policy, it is also the ministry linked to bodies such as the Huurcommissie.
