# Tear gas sprayed at ADE party in Amsterdam

> Fifteen visitors sought first aid after the spraying at the Gashouder on Saturday evening, the fourth pepper spray or tear gas incident at this year's Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE).

Security spotted the incident quickly. The organisation opened the large wooden doors and turned the music down for five minutes. A Gashouder spokesperson said: "Fortunately we have a good ventilation system that can refresh the air within 15 minutes." The spokesperson added that a shutdown was not needed and that almost everyone was dancing again within a quarter of an hour.

On Friday night, criminals tried the same tactic at Audio Obscura in the G-Star RAW Factory and at Elrow in the Kromhouthal. On Thursday evening, pepper spray was sprayed at a LoveLand party in Theater Amsterdam in the Houthavens.

The Gashouder spokesperson called the spraying of gas a "crazy and annoying trend". A LoveLand spokesperson said on Saturday that the phenomenon is hard to combat with frisking alone. In his view, ventilation is the best way to limit the harm from pepper spray.

The gas was sprayed around 19.40 at the party Franky Rizardo FLOW, during headliner Franky Rizardo's set, probably by someone trying to steal a necklace. A scuffle had broken out about 10 metres in front of the stage when someone tried to pull a necklace off a visitor. No suspect could be arrested in the crowd. Three of the 15 visitors who went to the first-aid post had to be checked; none needed hospital treatment.
