# Mortgage adviser AE Insurance must wind down after losing licence

> The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) says the firm gave unsuitable mortgage advice and helped in dozens of mortgage fraud cases. The revocation is now final.

The AFM revoked the licence of AE Insurance (AEI) on 27 January 2026. The licence covered advising on and arranging mortgage credit, among other things. AEI must wind down its activities.

No appeal was lodged against the decision, so the revocation is final (onherroepelijk). The AFM says consumers with questions or complaints can contact its helpline (Meldpunt Financiële Markten) on 0800-5400 540, which is free.

The AFM found that AEI systematically and over a long period committed violations, so it did not run a sound and ethical business. Since 2020 these included giving unsuitable mortgage advice, working with an illegal intermediary that lacked the required licence, and having no policy on reporting incidents.

The regulator says AEI also failed to report serious incidents over a longer period. It structurally refused to comply with several statutory requests for information.

According to the AFM, AEI played a facilitating role in dozens of cases of mortgage fraud. It submitted a considerable number of mortgage files to lenders that, in the lenders' judgement, contained false income data.

The AFM said the violations were not isolated but part of a wider pattern in which unethical conduct was built into the business. It said it has no confidence that AEI can meet the legal requirements, and it revoked the licence to protect consumers and keep trust in the financial markets.
