The Openbaar Ministerie (OM) has demanded 14 years in prison on appeal against a 48-year-old man suspected of killing his partner, Susanna Boon. The court of appeal (gerechtshof) heard the case on Thursday. The OM appealed because it disagrees with the district court's acquittal of 22 April 2025. It also demanded 14 years in the first instance.

The suspect stayed silent at the hearing, as he did at earlier sessions. The OM said the circumstances call for him to explain himself.

The advocate-general, the prosecutor at the appeal stage, said there is enough evidence to convict him of murder. Three people who had gone fishing with the suspect said the place where Boon was found lies on a route where they often fished. The suspect said in a chat conversation that he did not know the location. The prosecutor called that not credible.

The advocate-general said Boon had only been to that area when she visited the suspect's parents with him, and that she had no driving licence. "It is implausible that she travelled to Nunspeet of her own accord," the prosecutor said.

## The disappearance

Boon, 51, was reported missing on 9 January 2016. Her partner told police they had argued on 7 January and that she left their home on the Jacob van Lennepstraat in Amsterdam Oud-West around midnight, the worse for drink. She took 600 euros in cash and her house keys, and left her phone and wallet behind. On 31 March 2016 it became clear that remains found two days earlier in the woods of Nunspeet were hers.

The OM said Boon's relatives still want to know why the suspect killed her, and that his silence makes it harder for them to come to terms with the loss. "For them, justice has still not been done," the prosecution said.
