The Netherlands is giving Ukraine a further €500m in military support to help the country through the coming winter. Prime Minister Rob Jetten announced the money at a press conference in The Hague.

The new “winter package” (winterpakket) includes air defence weapons, among other items, Jetten said.

He spoke alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is visiting The Hague.

Zelensky thanked the Netherlands and other allies for their support. He said it helps save lives. “We need it to get through this winter,” he said.

Jetten called Dutch support “rock solid” and urged other European countries to keep backing Ukraine. “You are not alone: your fight is our fight,” he told Zelensky.

Separately, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma announced in Kyiv that the Netherlands is making €1.2bn available over the next three years for civilian support to Ukraine.

Zelensky is due to visit King Willem-Alexander at Huis ten Bosch Palace this evening.

The €500m is meant for air defence and drones. Jetten said the weapons should better protect Ukrainian civilians from air attacks.
