# Jetten urges EU leaders to step up financial and military aid to Ukraine

Prime Minister Rob Jetten has called on all EU heads of government to do more to support Ukraine, including with financial and military aid. He spoke to the international press before the EU summit began.

Jetten said many European countries are falling short in their aid to Ukraine. "Let's step it up a notch, then," he said.

He also turned on Russian President Vladimir Putin. "There is only one reason this senseless war of aggression continues: because Putin chooses it," Jetten said. "He is the one who can end this war by starting negotiations for a just and lasting peace. As long as he does not, Ukrainians have to defend themselves, and in doing so also European values."
