Anyone who rents out a home to tourists must have a unique registration number from Sunday 1 November. The number has to be shown on the booking platform and on any website of the host's own. Registration is done entirely online.

**Why it matters**

- Hosts: a unique registration number is required from 1 November, shown on the platform and on their own website.
- Platforms: they must send activity data to a central data point every month.
- Municipalities: they can check which address is listed online, how many nights a home was occupied and how many guests stayed.

The monthly data goes to the Single Digital Entry Point (SDEP), which the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning (Volkshuisvesting en Ruimtelijke Ordening) is setting up. The duty for platforms is in line with European rules on data sharing by rental platforms.

Neighbours who faced persistent nuisance or suspected illegal letting often had little to go on before. The central data point is meant to change that, because the municipality can now see the data directly.

The change amends the law introduced in 2021. It is meant to curb the spread of holiday rentals and to tackle nuisance in residential areas.

## Background

- **SDEP (Single Digital Entry Point)**: The Single Digital Entry Point is a single electronic gateway through which online platforms and short-term rental data are exchanged with Dutch authorities. Under EU rules on short-term accommodation rentals, platforms such as holiday rental sites send periodic data on listed properties and their hosts through this point. It matters for holiday rental hosts because it is the channel that connects registration numbers and rental data to the Dutch government.
