Eight people were taken to hospital after a serious crash on the N209 provincial road near Hazerswoude-Dorp, South Holland, on Thursday. Two of them are seriously injured, according to Veiligheidsregio Hollands Midden, the emergency services authority. Children are among the injured.

The crash happened around 11.30. The fire brigade had to free several victims from the vehicles before handing them to ambulance staff. Emergency services were scaled up because of the number of injured, and a trauma helicopter landed at the scene.

The crash happened just outside Hazerswoude-Dorp, on the stretch towards Boskoop and Benthuizen. Several people were put on stretchers and taken to hospital, and some of the seriously injured went by ambulance under police escort.
