The lab in the Meidoornstraat in The Hague held 8,000 litres of chemicals and 28 kilos of hard drugs, besides the raw materials for six million XTC pills, the public prosecutor said on Friday. The prosecutor spoke at the district court in The Hague, at the first public hearing in the case.

"This is very large-scale production of hard drugs," the prosecutor said.

The mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, called the drug lab "not only absolutely illegal, but also completely irresponsible in a busy residential area".

The lab was discovered in July. Friday's hearing was a pre-trial hearing in the case against four suspects, held before the district court in The Hague.
