Two men stole from a petrol station on the Provincialeweg in Zaandam on Thursday 5 November at around 17:30, police said. When an employee confronted them, they fled, and one of them drove a grey car at the employee.

One man ran along a cycle path towards the train station. The other got into a grey car with a taped-over licence plate and drove in the same direction, almost hitting the employee. Police said the employee could only just avoid the car but was injured, and did not need to go to hospital for a check-up.

Police have started an investigation. Officers are reviewing footage, have carried out a door-to-door inquiry and have spoken to witnesses.

Police estimate both men to be aged 20 to 30, with short black hair, a black beard and moustache. One wore a black jacket. The other wore a beige jacket with a black hood and black trousers.

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident or the car, or who has (dashcam) footage, to get in touch through the police tip form or the tip line on 0800-6070. People who prefer to stay anonymous can call Meld Misdaad Anoniem on 0800-7000.
