Albert Heijn is delivering groceries to people's homes again from Friday, almost two weeks after a cyberattack at its parent company, Ahold Delhaize, knocked out its online services. The chain can now handle a third of its normal volume of deliveries, a spokesperson said. "The first deliveries have been taking place since 07.00 this morning," the spokesperson said.

Customers with a regular delivery slot may get their shopping at a different time from usual, because capacity is still limited. The chain will expand the range of products and the number of delivery slots during the week. Customers whose orders were cancelled after an error message get shop credit from the chain.

Ahold Delhaize took certain systems offline as a precaution after the incident. The websites and apps of Albert Heijn and other brands, including Etos and Gall & Gall, had been unreachable since Sunday 11 October. A limited group of regular customers could order again in recent days; now everyone can.

The company has reported the attack to the police, after the police and the Public Prosecution Service publicly called on it to do so. Its internal investigation continues. The company says it has so far found no indications that sensitive customer, employee or partner data was stolen.

Customers are ordering everyday items again. "Milk, yoghurt, plant-based dairy, bread, vegetables, fruit and kitchen paper are popular," the spokesperson said.

## Background

- **Ahold Delhize**: Ahold Delhize is an international food retail group, with its head office in Zaandam in the Netherlands. It is the parent company of supermarket chains such as Albert Heijn in the Netherlands and Delhaize in Belgium, and it also runs grocery chains in the United States and other countries. Because it sits above these brands, it handles shared functions such as IT systems, which is why a problem at group level can affect the online services of its individual supermarkets.
